This article provides more information regarding the different quality results calculated for two-phase fluids in Flownex® for different regions.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR DIFFERENT REGIONS FOR A TWO-PHASE FLUID
Generally, the quality (x) of a two-phase fluid is a value of 0 for a saturated liquid, a value of 1 for a saturated vapour and a value between 0 and 1 when the fluid is in the two-phase region. Flownex® also provides specific quality results for the subcooled, superheated, supercritical and gas-only regions. These regions are shown in Figure 1, and the related quality results will be described in more detail below.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR SUBCOOLED AND SUPERHEATED TWO-PHASE FLUIDS IN FLOWNEX®
Quality results in Flownex® will be less than 0 (x < 0) or above 1 (x > 1) if the fluid is in the subcooled or superheated region.
If the two-phase fluid is subcooled, a negative quality result (x < 0) is used to indicate to the user to which extent the two-phase fluid is subcooled.
If the two-phase fluid is superheated, a quality result above 1 (x > 1) is used to indicate to the user to which extent the fluid is superheated.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR SUPERCRITICAL TWO-PHASE FLUIDS IN FLOWNEX®
If the pressure is higher than the critical pressure of the two-phase fluid, the fluid will be considered supercritical. The quality result for a supercritical two-phase fluid in Flownex® will be given a value of 1000.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR GAS-ONLY TWO-PHASE FLUIDS IN FLOWNEX®
If the pressure is lower than the triple point pressure of the two-phase fluid, the fluid will only exist as a gas, and the quality result in Flownex® will be given as a value of 100.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR LIQUID-GAS MIXTURES IN FLOWNEX®
For liquid-gas mixtures, the quality result reported by Flownex® will be equal to the mass fraction result of the gas in the liquid-gas mixture.
QUALITY RESULTS FOR TWO-PHASE INCONDENSABLE MIXTURES IN FLOWNEX®
For two-phase with incondensable mixtures, the quality result reported by Flownex® will be equal to the quality of the two-phase fluid in the mixture.
